Compost

The EN13432 industrial standard is argueably the most recognised international standard in scope. Compliance with this standard is required to prove that your product is biodegradable and be compostable under ambient conditions. This standard requires products to have 90% biodegradability over a time frame of 180 days. Compostability is the capacity of an organic material to be transformed into compost through the composting process. Compost is the result of both disintegration and aerobic biodegradation (occurring in the presence of oxygen).

Biodegradable vs. Compostable

Everything that is compostable is biodegradable, but not everything that is biodegradable is compostable. In other words, composting is a specific set of conditions in which biodegradation occurs.

PLANTIC™ HP products are predominately formulated with corn starch and can be disposed of in home compost as it is 100% biodegradable. Plantic Technology Ltd materials are certified as biodegradable and home compostable in compliance with EN13432 certified by AB Vincotte. For the certificates, Please visit our certifications page.
